Dining for Dementia

A heartwarming fundraising event dedicated to bringing hope and relief to countless lives and families by actively contributing to the search for a cure for dementia.

The organisers, Andrew McKinney Welch and Patrick Goldsworthy, have experienced firsthand the devastating effects of this disease on their own families.

Moved by their experiences and eager to take action they have come together to raise awareness and funds for early detection, treatment, and ultimately, a cure of dementia. Their goal is to unite individuals, families, and communities in a shared effort to support those affected by dementia and to emphasise the critical importance of improving diagnosis and discovering treatment to halt disease progression.

As the number of people affected by dementia continues to rise, ‘Dining for Dementia’ provides a wonderful opportunity for all of us to make a meaningful difference.

Adrian Schrinner, The Lord Mayor of Brisbane said “By attending Dining for Dementia, you will have an incredible night but most importantly you’ll be raising critical funds to support dedicated medical research. Currently there is no cure for dementia but this research creates the hope that – ONE DAY, THERE WILL BE! So I urge you to please, support Dining for Dementia and be part of the journey towards the cure!”

The Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) based in Brisbane is the flagship neuroscience research institute at The University of Queensland (UQ) and a world-leader in brain research.

The funds raised at ‘Dining For Dementia’ will be directed towards critical work at QBI’s Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Research (CJCADR). The Centre is comprised of broad-based and multidisciplinary team of 100 researchers, focused on understanding dementia and developing disease-modifying treatments.

The goal is to solve the major health issue of dementia which is facing society, reducing the social, emotional and financial impacts on the community.

QBI was established in 2003 now in its 20th anniversary year, the institute boasts a global reputation for undertaking outstanding research to treat neurological disorders such as dementia, MND, anxiety and depression and stroke, and learning more about the brain - discovering what makes us human.

A major translational discovery has been the scanning ultrasound technology as a targeted therapy for Alzheimer’s Disease which is now in clinical safety trial.

Without a medical breakthrough, the number of people living with dementia is estimated to triple in Australia by 2056.

Dining for Dementia in Brisbane is set to be a sensational night, offering unique auction items, stunning raffle prizes and exclusive entertainment.

With a big heart and even bigger energy, attending the Dining for Dementia event is a fun way to help make a difference.
